Q: Give me a what if.... a little tweak in human DNA or a small change in a cultural norm that, if true, would change the way we live or relate to each other.
A: What if humans knew everything about the other just by shaking hands? Would we become a gentler, more vulnerable society, or would we never touch each other ever again? Some might live out their lives wearing gloves fearing the breach of privacy, while others would use the ability to exploit. Imagine the effects on empaths, sociopaths, on lovers, or parents and children. I think the desire to know and be known is great, especially between partners, and the idea that we could break down walls and understand why people do what they do simply by touch is intriguing, but ultimately it might be too much to bear.
